Mercedes-Benz EQE350 4Matic Sedan 2023 review: snapshot

Mercedes-Benz has been building cars for longer than anyone else, but as it expands its electric portfolio it runs the risk of alienating its existing customers. Mercedes-Benz has been building cars for longer than anyone else, but as it expands its electric portfolio it runs the risk of alienating its existing customers. But the new EQE 350 is just what the brand needs, an all-electric luxury sedan that will appeal to both traditional and contemporary buyers.

The EQE350 is priced from $154,900 (plus on-road costs) and is powered by a dual-motor (one on each axle) all-wheel drive powertrain. The combined outputs of the motors are 215kW/765Nm, while the range is rated at 465km on a single charge and energy use is 17.6kWh/100km.

Charging is via a Type 2 CCS plug and it can take up to 11kW AC or 170kW DC.

Standard equipment on the EQE350 includes AMG Line interior and exterior packages, plus Mercedes' latest MBUX multimedia system, a Burmester 3D surround sound system, smartphone integration for Apple and Android devices and wireless charging, heated seats and a panoramic sliding sunroof.

While the EQE Sedan hasn’t been crash tested by ANCAP, it has received a five-star rating from Euro NCAP. It comes with plenty of both passive and active safety features, including 10 airbags, a 360-degree parking camera, Active Parking Assist and Traffic Sign Assist, and a wide array of semi-autonomous functions including emergency braking, lane keeping assist and lane change assist.

One major selling point for the EQE Sedan, especially when compared to its E-Class internal combustion engine-powered sibling, is the interior space. The EQE is built on a bespoke EV platform and it means there’s an extra 80mm of interior space, translating to plenty of room, especially in the back seats.

Overall this is an impressive offering from Mercedes, holding true to the brand’s core luxury traits while moving into the electric era.
