There are people who like their cars and others who profess to love them, and then there's Melbournite Allan Frith, who speaks about his beloved set of wheels as though it's certain to be written into his will and given a seat at the head of the dinner table each night. His wife might well be wise to keep an eye on his Subaru, too.

"I sometimes think it's not just my wife and daughter in this family, it's Subaru as well," jokes Frith about his Subaru Forester (well, we think he's joking), which is soon to be replaced with - you guessed it - another Forester. "A friend introduced me to Subaru back in 1999, I fell in love with them and then bought my first WRX in 2000," he continues.

"Since then, I've had six Subarus in total, including another Forester, an Impreza, and this current Forester, which I'm about to update. My daughter will get the Impreza and my wife will get the current Forester, so we'll be a three Subaru family."

A huge ice hockey enthusiast, Frith says the Forester is the perfect size to help him transport his gear to and from games. "I need the Subaru wagon to keep all my sporting equipment in the back - my sports bag, my ice hockey sticks," he says. "It's quite a cumbersome number of things, and the Forester is the perfect size to carry it all around." Plentiful space isn't the only thing Frith appreciates about his Subaru. "We're reaching our twilight years, so the extra room, the ride height and the comfort in the Forester is just beautiful. Nothing else comes close," he enthuses.

Sally Grainger from Sydney's northern beaches is another Forester fan, who says her Subaru has become a part of the fabric of her family life. "We've been Subaru fans for close to 20 years now," she says. "We've always been a Forester family."

Grainger is also a fan of the luggage space the Forester provides for families on the go.

"We've got two kids and a dog, so there's always a whole bunch of stuff to take whenever we go somewhere," she says. "The Forester has really grown and adapted with us as our family situation has changed over the years, which is great."

With a husband in a rock band, Grainger says the Forester is also fantastic in terms of servicing the needs of a music-loving family. "My husband and I and the kids all love music, so being able to connect our phones to the Forester via Apple CarPlay allows us to enjoy songs wherever we want and whenever we want," she says.

Grainger also nominates the Forester's safety features as a huge part of its appeal. She says that's a large part of what makes it the perfect car for family road trips that create great memories.

"We're a really outdoors-y family and we enjoy getting away from the city, whether that's going up the coast along the beaches or heading to the mountains, and we just find that the car enables us to go further afield more easily," she says.

"I'd definitely recommend a Forester for any young, active family like us who loves the outdoors. It really is an adaptable, versatile car that's wonderful to drive."
