Unless you live in one of those remote houses located by a crystalline lake deep in the woods - dwellings that only seems to exist on Instagram - you need a suitable vehicle to help put you in touch with nature.
The Subaru XV isn't just a suitable car for such a task, it's the perfect car, and one that nature enthusiast Paul Mattielli, currently enjoying more time in the great outdoors thanks to long-service leave, credits with catering to all of his driving desires, connecting the city to the country with comfort and ease. "Subaru suits my needs best because it has that versatility of being a great all-rounder," says the 60-year-old from Melbourne. "I wanted something that had that more metropolitan stylish look, but you also have the ability to take it off-road without it having to be some big, bulky four-wheel-drive, and the Subaru XV fits that criteria."
As far as Paul is concerned, the XV delivers him everything he looks for in a car, from dynamic driving ability to a cabin packed with comfort and the latest high-tech features. "The car suits us perfectly, because it's just a beautiful car to drive," Paul enthuses."I love the sunroof, I love how comfortable it is, I love the features that it has, like the adaptive cruise control, which gives you so much confidence - if you're following the car in front of you, the XV slows down. It's just a brilliant feature and is very effective."
"We can rely on the XV if we have to go down a dirt track - we can safely go down there knowing the car can handle it and it allows us to get into spots that you wouldn't be able to with a standard car. It just fits the brief for allowing us to immerse ourselves in nature."
Geelong resident Erin Craven skillfully juggles a career in journalism with the demands of parenting, and says her Subaru XV is perfect for the busy lifestyle she shares with her nine-year-old son. "We're a pretty active family, so we're often throwing the footy and footy boots in the car," says the 44-year-old. "We're pretty close to the Great Ocean Road, so we might go down to one of the beaches, or maybe throw the kayak on the car and go down to the river for a paddle."
"The XV fits our lifestyle because whether it's just driving to work, whether it's down to the shops, whether it's throwing the bikes in the car or the kayak, it just fits a really active lifestyle. We enjoy our road trips - I love that we can get in the car, just plug in the phone, it tells us where we're going, we can play our favourite music, and fight over who gets to play what songs!"
Besides being a fan of the Subaru XV's Apple CarPlay, Erin says that the XV's SUV shape plays a big part in the car's appeal for her.
"I chose the XV because I knew that I wanted to sit up high," she says. "We'd had a sedan in the past and I'd had a four-wheel-drive in the past, and I knew that I felt more comfortable sitting up high, and the XV delivered that at a good price point."
The XV's long list of standard features were another reason Erin chose to go with her Subaru.
"It also had a lot of bells and whistles that a lot of the other cars that it was competing with didn't have as standard, so the XV ticked a lot of boxes," she says. "It's just a really nice easy car to drive and you feel safe in it. It's great fun, it fits in with all activities, so I think it's a really good 'hero' car."
In 2023, the new Subaru CrossTrek will arrive in Australia as a worthy successor to the XV, ensuring that proud legacy of connecting Australians with the natural world around them continues for years to come.
